Association for Talent Development (ATD) Competencies

“…[C]ulture eats strategy for breakfast” (Groysberg, et al., 2018, p. 46, para. 2). Investment of time and resources can be waisted when the culture of an organization stands in direct conflict with the strategy. Culture and leadership are very much linked; so leaders who do not truly reflect the culture that is desired, will likely subconsciously generate more resistance to the desired change that is trying to emerge (Groysberg, et al., 2018). Ensuring the right people are leading and managing in sync with an organization's goals is one of the most important steps organizations can take. Otherwise, progress is risky. Subsequently, I see organizational development and culture as a priority for my continuous personal development. My study of Groysberg's (et al., 2018) research shows how the alignment of strategy and culture drive successful outcomes.

Change management is another area of personal continuous growth for me. Based on the unique characteristics of an organization's size, communication channels, resources, familiarity with a change model, and culture will play into the selection of the appropriate management framework (Bridges, 2019). What I see that all major change management frameworks have in common is communication; the ability to use communication channels and effective messaging helps build understand and awareness of the change and the responsibilities of the stakeholders.

Prosci is currently my favorite change management framework because it granulates critical elements of complexity. A change management framework for big projects can be scaled back for smaller projects.
